Calvary Christian is about to make its first state appearance in any team sport.
With the two biggest bats in Calvary’s lineup coming through with back-to-back home runs, the Eagles gutted out a 6-5 win over SLAM Academy in a Class 4A regional final on Thursday at Miami’s Gibson Park in a game stormy weather had postponed twice.
The Eagles (19-9) flipped SLAM’s district championship on them when it mattered most and will face Tampa Berkeley Prep in a state semifinal on Fri., May 13.
“I’m excited for these guys. I’m excited for this school,” said first-year Calvary coach Alan Kunkel, who has previously taken Orangewood Christian to state. “What a great opportunity to continue to play for another week.”
