With only two players returning from a team that made regional finals last year and a new coach, Calvary Christian was going to need leadership from a newcomer.
Enter Max Guzman.
A senior transfer from Miami St. Brendan, Guzman fit the bill: a catcher, hitting third, who played a key role in working with Eagles pitchers. Guzman was named a captain on the team, and together with the pitching staff, led Calvary to its first state championship.
“It just felt like I was home. We all connected once I got there,” Guzman said. “It was fun to be a captain of the team and everybody looking up to you to lead the team and motivate them.”
